Every year on August 15, the Prime Minister‘s turban and kurta become symbols of fashion and cultural pride across the nation. This year, all eyes were on his outfit.
For the 80th Independence Day, PM Narendra Modi donned a traditional red-patterned turban. The turban featured a design adorned with white, brown, and yellow dots. He paired it with a white kurta-pajama and a chocolate brown waistcoat.
Last year, during the 79th Independence Day, PM Modi opted for a monochromatic look, wearing a saffron turban that matched a saffron waistcoat and a neatly draped tricolor stole.
In 2024, he chose a wave print, showcasing bright orange, deep green, and yellow stripes. The long tail of the turban had deep folds. The previous year, 2023, saw the return of the classic Rajasthani bandhani print, featuring vibrant yellow, green, and red colors.
In 2022, aligning with the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, his turban resembled the national flag. He wore a clean white turban with saffron and green stripes. The year before, in 2021, he sported a saffron turban with red designs and a long pink tail.
During the pandemic in 2020, PM Modi wore a bright saffron and cream turban. Notably, he also donned a white and saffron stole that doubled as a face mask.

In 2016, he embraced the classic tie-dye technique with an attractive pink and yellow turban. In 2015, he selected a sun-yellow turban with a striking red and deep green cross pattern.
For his first Independence Day address in 2014, PM Modi wore a bright red Jodhpuri turban, embellished with green contrasts. Each year, PM Modi’s turban not only represents fashion but also reflects India’s diversity, tradition, and the message of the year.
