New Delhi: On the occasion of the 649th birth anniversary of Sant Guru Ravidas Ji, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Punjab on Sunday. He is scheduled to arrive at Adampur Airport around 3:45 pm, where he will unveil the new name of the airport as Shri Guru Ravidas Ji Airport, Adampur. Following this, he will inaugurate the terminal building at Halwara Airport in Ludhiana.
The Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement highlighting that renaming Adampur Airport is a tribute to Sant Guru Ravidas Ji, a revered saint and social reformer whose teachings on equality, compassion, and human dignity continue to inspire India’s social values.
Further advancing Punjab’s aviation infrastructure, the new terminal at Halwara Airport will serve as a significant gateway for the state. It is expected to meet the needs of Ludhiana and the surrounding industrial and agricultural regions. Halwara Airbase, located in Ludhiana district, is also a strategically important Indian Air Force station.
The earlier airport in Ludhiana had a short runway suitable only for smaller aircraft. To improve connectivity and accommodate larger planes, a new civil enclave has been developed at Halwara with a longer runway capable of handling aircraft like the A320.
In line with the Prime Minister’s vision for sustainable and environmentally responsible development, the new terminal incorporates numerous green and energy-efficient features. These include LED lighting, insulated roofing, rainwater harvesting, sewage and water treatment plants, and the use of recycled water for landscaping. The architectural design reflects Punjab’s rich cultural heritage, offering passengers a unique and regionally inspired travel experience.
