PM Modi Praises Slovak Schoolchildrens Yoga Performance Ahead of International Yoga Day

Bratislava, June 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his delight on Tuesday after witnessing a special yoga performance by Slovak schoolchildren, alongside Slovak President Peter Pellegrini. He noted that this event, held ahead of International Yoga Day, showcased the growing appeal and acceptance of yoga worldwide.

PM Modi shared his thoughts on the social media platform X, stating, “President Pellegrini and I were very pleased to see the special yoga performance by Slovak schoolchildren. As the world approaches International Yoga Day, it is heartening to see youth embracing yoga. It is also gratifying to see yoga bringing people together in a shared effort for health.”

Additionally, a yoga camp was organized on Monday at the Presidential Palace in Slovakia, where local youth practiced yoga in the presence of PM Modi and President Pellegrini.

The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that PM Modi and President Pellegrini observed the unique yoga presentation by Slovak schoolchildren. Both leaders emphasized yoga’s role in promoting cultural ties between India and Slovakia, as well as its benefits for physical health, mental harmony, and a healthy lifestyle.

In a separate post, PM Modi shared details of his conversation with renowned Slovak scholar Dr. Robert Gafrik, who has played a crucial role in translating the Upanishads into Slovak.

PM Modi remarked, “Yesterday evening in Bratislava, I met Dr. Robert Gafrik, who has led efforts to translate the Upanishads into Slovak. His passion for Indian history, culture, and spirituality is commendable.”

International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on June 21 to raise awareness about the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga. The idea was first proposed by PM Modi during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2014.

Following significant global support, the United Nations officially declared June 21 as International Yoga Day on December 11, 2014. This date marks the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and symbolizes harmony, balance, and a deep connection between humanity and nature.
