PM Modi Honors Sardar Patel, Highlights Poverty Reduction Achievements

PM Modi commemorates Sardar Patel on National Unity Day, emphasizing unity and poverty reduction efforts in India.

Ekta Nagar, October 31 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the National Unity Day celebrations on October 31 at the Parade Ground in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat. He paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, recalling his significant role in uniting over 550 princely states after India’s independence. Modi praised Patel’s iron will, which helped weave the fabric of national unity.

This year’s event marked a shift, as it was held in the evening instead of the traditional morning schedule. Earlier in the day, millions across the country participated in the “Run for Unity,” showcasing a remarkable spirit of solidarity.

Expressing pride in being a citizen of such a great nation, Modi highlighted the importance of gratitude towards Sardar Patel. He noted that the Republic instills accountability to the people, while unity empowers the nation to progress. Therefore, India celebrates Independence Day, Republic Day, and Unity Day with great enthusiasm.

During the event, Modi extended his wishes for National Unity Day to all citizens and respectfully bowed to Sardar Patel. He addressed the issue of poverty, criticizing those who proclaimed “Remove Poverty” while becoming wealthy themselves. However, he pointed out that the situation has begun to change in recent years. Referencing a recent World Bank report, he stated that in the next 10 to 12 years, 500 million Indians are expected to overcome poverty.

Modi noted that previously, over 27% of the population lived in extreme poverty. Today, that figure has dropped to below 3%.

He also discussed global challenges, mentioning ongoing wars in various countries and the economic struggles faced by powerful nations. The crisis of resources and fragmented global supply chains pose significant challenges. In such times, India’s unity and brotherhood among its citizens stand as the nation’s greatest strength, enabling it to overcome various crises.

The Prime Minister remarked on the recent global energy crisis, highlighting that many countries had to impose restrictions on diesel and petrol purchases. Concerns were raised about India facing a severe crisis due to its large population and limited domestic oil production. However, he emphasized that India has proven its resilience by shielding its citizens from the impacts of the global energy crisis.

Modi concluded by reiterating that national unity is the country’s greatest strength, enabling India to face any challenge head-on.
