Rome, May 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a packet of ‘Melody’ sweets to his Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, during his official visit to Italy. Meloni expressed her gratitude for the thoughtful gift.

The Italian Prime Minister shared a 12-second video clip on the social media platform ‘X’, featuring her alongside PM Modi. In the clip, she remarked, “Prime Minister Modi has brought us a wonderful gift. These are sweets that are very delicious.” Following her statement, PM Modi picked up the packet of sweets, which prominently displayed the name ‘Melody’.

After showcasing the gift to the camera, both leaders shared a light-hearted laugh.

PM Modi arrived in Rome on Tuesday as part of his official visit to Italy. He was warmly welcomed by PM Meloni upon his arrival. This visit marks the final leg of PM Modi’s tour across five countries.

Meloni personally welcomed the Indian Prime Minister, posting on ‘X’, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!” This gesture highlights the strong friendship between the two leaders.

Earlier, PM Modi attended a dinner hosted by PM Meloni, sharing images from the event on social media. He expressed eagerness for discussions that would further strengthen India-Italy relations.

He wrote on ‘X’, “After arriving in Rome, I had the opportunity to meet PM Meloni for dinner, followed by a visit to the Colosseum. We exchanged views on various topics. I look forward to today’s discussions, where we will talk about strengthening India-Italy friendship.”

During this visit, PM Modi will engage in bilateral talks with PM Meloni and meet with President Sergio Mattarella.

The Prime Minister also shared details about his visit, emphasizing its goal of enhancing India-Italy relations.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on ‘X’, “A new chapter is beginning in the India-Italy strategic partnership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Italy for an official visit. He received a warm welcome at the airport from Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. India and Italy have long enjoyed a multifaceted partnership, and this visit is expected to give new momentum to bilateral relations.”
