PM Modi Congratulates Nepal on Successful Elections

New Delhi, March 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his congratulations to Nepal for successfully conducting its elections. He expressed India’s readiness to collaborate with its close friend and neighbor, Nepal.

On the social media platform X, he praised the people and government of Nepal, stating, “I want to sincerely congratulate the people and government of Nepal for the successful and peaceful conduct of the elections. It is heartening to see our Nepali brothers and sisters exercising their democratic rights with such enthusiasm.”

He referred to this achievement as a proud moment in Nepal’s democratic journey.

PM Modi further added, “As a close friend and neighbor, India is prepared to work alongside the people of Nepal and their new government to achieve new heights of peace, progress, and prosperity.”

Counting for the general elections in Nepal is currently underway. The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), led by former rapper and Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah, has emerged as the largest party, winning 60 seats by 6 PM. This party was founded just four years ago by former journalist Ravi Lamichhane.

Prominent leader and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is trailing by 43,000 votes in the Jhapa constituency. His defeat and Balen Shah’s victory are now considered almost certain.

Oli has previously won the Jhapa-5 seat twice, first in 2017 and again in 2022 with significant margins.

The remaining 110 seats in Nepal are allocated based on the total percentage of votes received by parties, rather than individual candidates. Voters cast their ballots for parties, and the percentage of votes determines their representation in parliament.
