
Gangtok, April 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 50th Statehood Day celebrations of Sikkim on Tuesday. During the event, he inaugurated and laid the foundation for various development projects worth approximately ₹4,000 crores. He emphasized that Northeast India is the country’s “Ashtalakshmi,” with Sikkim being a vital part of it.
On this occasion, PM Modi shared three posts on the social media platform X. In his first post, he expressed that the enthusiasm and warmth he received in Gangtok filled him with new energy. He congratulated the people of Sikkim on the completion of 50 years of statehood, stating that India takes pride in Sikkim’s contributions to national development. He noted that the people of Sikkim have carved a unique identity in various fields, earning admiration nationwide for their excellence.
Following this, the Prime Minister shared some pictures from the event, highlighting special moments from Sikkim’s 50th Statehood Day celebrations.
In his third post, he mentioned his visit to the Orchidarium in Gangtok, describing its beauty as captivating. He remarked that Sikkim’s rich biodiversity is truly remarkable, reflecting our deep harmony with nature and inspiring conservation and sustainable lifestyles.
While addressing a public gathering at Paljor Stadium, PM Modi stated that the central government has prioritized the development of Northeast states in recent years. He noted that the government is now not just limited to the “Act East” policy but is also adopting a “Act Fast” approach for rapid development.
He emphasized that the immense tourism potential can only be fully realized with robust connectivity in the region. The Prime Minister reiterated that the central government is prioritizing road, rail, and air connectivity in the Northeast.
He highlighted the rapid progress on the Sevok-Rangpo railway line project, which will provide Sikkim with its first-ever rail connectivity upon completion.
Additionally, PM Modi mentioned the proposed expressway connecting Bagdogra to Gangtok, stating that this project will significantly reduce travel time and boost tourism.
