PM Modi Celebrates Gandhis Timeless Ideals in Sweden

Gothenburg, May 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian community in Gothenburg, Sweden. During the event, Swedish opera singer Charlotte Huld sang the song “Vaishnav Jan To.” PM Modi expressed his delight, stating that Gandhi’s timeless ideals continue to resonate in Sweden and inspire us to create a better world.

Upon his arrival, PM Modi met with a large gathering of community members, who waved Indian and Swedish flags while chanting “Modi Modi” in celebration. He remarked that the love and warmth from the Indian community in Gothenburg were “truly heartwarming.”

PM Modi and his Swedish counterpart, Ulf Kristersson, attended a cultural program featuring an orchestra performance. He later shared on social media platform X, “The affection and warmth from the Indian community in Gothenburg are genuinely touching. Their deep connection with India and their contributions to strengthening India-Sweden relations fill us all with pride.”

He added, “It is heartening to see that Bapu’s thoughts still resonate in Sweden. The welcome event featured Swedish opera singer Charlotte Huld performing ‘Vaishnav Jan To.’ Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals continue to inspire us to build a better world.”

Earlier in the day, PM Modi arrived in Sweden after completing his visit to the Netherlands, where he was welcomed at the airport by Prime Minister Kristersson. PM Modi expressed gratitude, stating, “I appreciate Prime Minister Kristersson for receiving me at Gothenburg Airport. I hope this important visit will further strengthen India-Sweden friendship.”

He emphasized that Sweden is a significant partner for India, especially in technology, sustainability, innovation, and research and development.

Before this visit, Swedish Gripen fighter jets escorted PM Modi’s aircraft into Swedish airspace. During this tour, both Prime Ministers will review all aspects of India-Sweden relations and discuss new opportunities to enhance trade.

Additionally, both leaders will address the European Round Table for Industry, which will also include European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), PM Modi and Kristersson will explore new avenues for cooperation to boost trade between the two nations.
