New Delhi, August 4: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has expressed his support for the ‘Drug-Free Youth for Developed India’ initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He described it as a significant step towards building a developed India.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Jaishankar stated that he firmly backs the Prime Minister’s call for the 100-week ‘Drug-Free Youth for Developed India’ campaign. He emphasized that this initiative reflects a collective commitment to empower the youth of the nation. According to him, the youth of India are the greatest driving force behind the creation of a developed country. A drug-free, healthy, and self-confident youth generation can elevate the nation to new heights.
Earlier, on August 2, Prime Minister Modi formally launched the ‘Drug-Free Youth for Developed India’ campaign via video conferencing. Over one million young people participated from more than 28,000 locations across the country. The Prime Minister emphasized that this is not just a government program but a collective commitment of the entire nation, uniting citizens for a significant and noble cause.
He pointed out that this initiative extends beyond individual health, linking to the broader interests of families, society, and the nation. To achieve the goal of a developed India, a youth generation that is physically healthy, mentally empowered, confident, and completely free from destructive habits like substance abuse is essential.
The campaign began last year as a pilot project in Kashi and has now been expanded nationally. Under the Kashi Declaration, this public movement has reached across the country with the support of over 125 spiritual organizations and various non-governmental organizations.
The Prime Minister praised the millions of young people who have taken the anti-drug pledge and called on them to spread the message of a drug-free life in their schools, colleges, and communities. He announced that over the next 100 weeks, activities such as art, culture, sports, yoga, and meditation will be organized every Sunday to engage more youth in this initiative.
Referring to the youth as India’s ‘Amrit Generation’, the Prime Minister stated that their energy, innovation, and talent will realize the goal of a developed India by 2047. He urged the youth to pledge to stay completely away from drugs for their bright future and the nation’s development.
