Geneva, March 14 : Over 630 civilians have been killed and over 1,100 injured in Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian military operation in Ukraine on February 24, the ted Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner (OHCHR) said on Monday in a statement. “Between 04:00 on 24 February 2022, when the Russian Federation’s armed attack against Ukraine started, and 24:00 on 13 March 2022 (local time), OHCHR recorded 1,761 civilian casualties in the country: 636 killed and 1,125 injured,” the statement read. A total of 636 killed includes: 127 men, 91 women, 6 girls, and 10 boys, as well as 30 children and 372 adults whose sex is unknown. A total of 1,125 injured includes: 101 men, 71 women, 15 girls, and 4 boys, as well as 43 children and 891 adults whose sex is unknown. The office specified that 148 civilians have been killed and 572 injured in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and 488 killed and 553 injured in other regions of Ukraine. In total, 46 children have been killed and 62 injured. The office added that most casualties among civilians have been caused by explosive weapons with a wide impact area, including missiles and heavy artillery. OHCHR noted that the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine has not been able ” to visit places of incidents and interview victims and witnesses there,” therefore the statistics provided in the statement “are based on individual civilian casualty records where the ‘reasonable grounds to believe’ standard of proof was met.” OHCHR added it believes the number of casualties is “considerably” higher.
