Over 200 Fall Ill After Wedding Feast in Dahod, Samples Sent for Testing

Dahod, April 22: Over 200 attendees fell ill after a wedding ceremony in Dahod district. Following the incident, food samples are currently undergoing laboratory testing. Several individuals required hospitalization due to their symptoms.

Officials reported that samples of paneer curry, puris, mango juice, and tanker water have been sent to the Food and Drug Laboratory in Vadodara for analysis. Additionally, samples were collected from the vendors of paneer and mango juice to identify the source of the contamination.

The incident occurred on Monday evening during a wedding celebration in the village of Abhlod in the Garbada taluka. The food was catered by Dhanabhai Bharwad.

According to the Chief District Health Officer (CDHO), between 1,000 and 1,200 guests were served, with 222 individuals experiencing symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and abdominal pain.

The Food and Drug Control Authority (FDCA) was notified on Tuesday, and the state government has requested a detailed report from the district administration following the incident.

State Health Minister Prabhul Panseriya stated, “This incident occurred during a private event last evening. Affected patients are receiving treatment at the civil hospital. I have requested a detailed report from the district administration, which will be available within 1-2 days.”

Health officials indicated that 184 patients have been discharged after treatment, while 34 individuals remained hospitalized as of Tuesday afternoon. Others with milder symptoms are being treated at local hospitals and primary health centers.

Doctors noted that symptoms appeared shortly after the meal, prompting a large-scale medical response, with many patients transported to hospitals by ambulance and private vehicles.

Dahod’s epidemiologist, Dr. Nayan Joshi, mentioned that officials from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) are also assisting in the investigation.

He stated, “FSSAI officials are on-site and helping with sample collection alongside state authorities. The investigation results will be shared soon.”

As of now, the source of the contamination has not been confirmed. Authorities indicated that further legal action will depend on the district report and laboratory test results, which are expected in the coming days.

No fatalities have been reported from this incident, and most patients are said to be in stable condition.
