Noida, May 9: The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) conducted a special inspection campaign under ‘Operation Clean Air’ in Noida and surrounding areas on Saturday. The primary goal was to assess dust levels on the roads and review ongoing street cleaning and sweeping activities in the city.
Nineteen flying squad teams were deployed across Noida for the inspection. These teams conducted a comprehensive review of 46 road segments under the jurisdiction of the Noida Authority. During the inspection, 28 instances of excessive dust and accumulation of construction and demolition waste were observed in various locations, including sectors 20, 21, 59, 62, 80, 82, 83, 84, 87, 88, 138, 140, 141, and 145. The investigation revealed deficiencies in regular cleaning, dust control measures, and the scientific management and disposal of construction and demolition waste in some segments.
The commission directed the relevant authorities to enhance dust control measures through regular mechanized cleaning, targeted water spraying, and timely collection and disposal of accumulated construction and demolition waste. The Noida Authority was also advised to strengthen monitoring and enforcement mechanisms to prevent unauthorized dumping and ensure continuous compliance with established environmental standards. The commission emphasized that any lapses in implementing the prescribed dust control measures and negligence by the concerned authorities would be taken seriously. It recommended holding accountable those responsible for the identified deficiencies and taking appropriate action against them.
It was stressed that dust pollution remains a significant issue in urban areas, necessitating focused and continuous efforts from all relevant authorities to address it. The commission highlighted the need for ongoing ground-level monitoring, improved maintenance procedures, and accountability-based implementation of dust control measures. It reiterated that ‘Operation Clean Air’ will continue in the Delhi-NCR region as part of ongoing efforts to identify major pollution sources and reduce local pollution levels. Relevant agencies and officials assured the commission that necessary corrective actions would be taken regarding the deficiencies found during the inspection.
