Om Birla Advocates for Cooperative Expansion in Dairy Sector During Kota-Bundi Review

New Delhi, March 27: Lok Sabha Speaker and Kota-Bundi MP Om Birla chaired a high-level meeting to review and expedite the integrated development of the dairy sector in the Kota-Bundi region.

The meeting, held at the Parliament House, included the presence of Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, along with other senior officials. The primary focus was on strengthening the dairy system through cooperative societies and enhancing income opportunities for livestock farmers.

Key discussion points included the expansion of dairy cooperatives, strengthening milk processing infrastructure, improving the marketing of milk and dairy products, and promoting livestock productivity through better breeding, nutrition, and health services.

The meeting also emphasized the digitization of the dairy value chain, waste management, and capacity-building initiatives. Birla discussed proposals for establishing small-scale biogas units and fodder production plants to ensure year-round availability of green fodder in the region.

He directed officials to expand the scope of artificial insemination to improve animal breeds and increase milk production, while also requesting regular progress reports on these initiatives.

Highlighting the need to strengthen procurement systems, Birla stressed the importance of expanding dairy cooperatives to maximize milk collection, thereby helping farmers earn additional income through livestock farming.

He issued specific directives to the Kota Milk Union regarding this matter. The Speaker called for the extension of the dairy cooperative network to every village through the Kota Milk Union and ‘Ujala MPO,’ increasing producer participation and installing electronic milk testing equipment and bulk milk coolers at collection centers.

Birla also emphasized ensuring 100 percent digital payments directly into farmers’ bank accounts and adopting clean milk production practices.
