Gandhinagar, October 16 (Daily Kiran): The Gujarat government has officially announced the much-anticipated cabinet expansion, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Friday, October 17, at 11:30 AM at the Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. The event will take place in the presence of senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to a statement issued by the State Information Department, the new ministers to be inducted into Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s cabinet will be administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Acharya Devvrat during the ceremony.

The usual cabinet meeting, which is held every Wednesday, did not take place on October 15, fuelling speculation about the impending reshuffle. BJP has directed all MLAs and ministers to remain present in Gandhinagar for the next two days, with instructions to arrive by Thursday afternoon.

BJP National General Secretary (Organization) Sunil Bansal is expected to arrive in Gujarat today, while Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will return from an event in Mumbai around 3 PM.

Amid discussions of a major reshuffle, Governor Acharya Devvrat’s planned visit to Kurukshetra (Haryana) has been shortened, indicating the urgency surrounding the expansion.

The reshuffle follows the recent appointment of Jagdish Vishwakarma as the Gujarat BJP State President. Political observers believe that the Saurashtra region, which has seen increased activity from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after Gopal Italia’s bypoll victory, could receive greater representation in the new cabinet.

Reports suggest that discontent among senior BJP leaders has reached the party high command, with speculation that some may consider switching to AAP. To prevent internal friction ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, the BJP leadership is expected to reassign key roles and bring back experienced leaders who have been sidelined.

It is worth noting that in 2021, the BJP had carried out a complete cabinet overhaul, replacing the entire team, including then Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. Following his resignation, Bhupendra Patel was appointed Chief Minister, under whose leadership the BJP achieved a historic victory with 156 seats in the 2022 Assembly elections.
