Odisha Semiconductor Plant Secures Advance Booking Before Construction Begins

Bhubaneswar, April 19: The semiconductor plant in Odisha has already secured advance bookings for its production, even before construction begins. The project is expected to take approximately 2.5 years to complete. This announcement was made by Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during the groundbreaking ceremony on Sunday.

During a media interaction at the ceremony, the minister stated that the foundation stone for the semiconductor plant was laid on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. He emphasized that this will be a highly advanced semiconductor facility. Traditionally, silicon substrates are used for semiconductor manufacturing, but this plant will utilize cutting-edge technology, including 3D glass substrates.

Vaishnaw further mentioned that all future production from this plant has already been booked in advance.

He added that this project will not only provide a new direction for industrial development in Odisha but will also establish the state as a key hub for IT and electronics manufacturing in the country.

The minister highlighted that this plant signifies Odisha’s transition from being a producer of traditional metals and minerals to embracing modern technology-driven industries.

On this occasion, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Chara Majhi remarked that a new chapter has begun in the semiconductor sector of Odisha. The construction of the glass substrate packaging unit by the renowned semiconductor company 3D Glass Solutions has commenced. This marks the first instance of glass substrate packaging in India. The company is investing approximately ₹2,000 crores in the first phase, which will aid India in becoming self-reliant in the semiconductor sector.

He further noted that this plant will produce 70,000 glass panels, 50 million assembled units, and 13,200 3D HI modules, creating employment opportunities for over 2,500 individuals.
