Odisha Chief Minister Honors Gandhi and Shastri on Their Birth Anniversaries

Bhubaneswar, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the lasting inspiration derived from the sacrifices and moral values of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri during a tribute event on October 2. This occasion marked the birth anniversaries of both leaders at the Odisha Assembly complex.

In his address, Majhi stated that Gandhi played a pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence while also guiding the world through his principles of morality, non-violence, and civil disobedience. He remarked, “Gandhiji’s vision was to serve the most marginalized in society, maintain cleanliness, and promote self-reliance. Today, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, this dream is becoming a reality.”

The Chief Minister noted that cleanliness has transformed into a mass movement in the country, while the mantra of self-reliance is foundational to building an “Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

Majhi also highlighted the ‘Antyodaya Yojana,’ initiated to empower the poor and marginalized, ensuring that the benefits of development reach the last person in society.

Referring to Shastri as a symbol of peace, he praised his simple living, high ideals, and integrity as exemplary for all. “Shastri Ji’s selfless service to the nation and his slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ ignited a new spirit and energy among all Indians,” Majhi stated.

He concluded by affirming the commitment to building a “prosperous Odisha” and a “developed India,” inspired by Gandhi’s truths and non-violence, as well as Shastri’s dedication to duty and service to the nation.

The event also featured a multi-faith prayer meeting organized by Odisha’s Information and Public Relations Department, along with a rendition of Gandhi’s favorite devotional song, “Ram Dhun.” The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, and other senior officials.
