Norways Foreign Minister Praises Modis Global Influence and Indias Rising Role

Oslo, May 19: Norway’s Foreign Minister, Espen Barth Eide, has hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a popular and influential leader. He emphasized that Modi has played a crucial role in establishing India’s strong presence on the global stage.

Eide described Modi’s recent visit to Oslo as both successful and highly beneficial. During this visit, significant discussions took place between India and Norway, focusing on collaboration in various sectors, including innovation and green growth. He noted that this partnership would further strengthen bilateral relations and facilitate joint efforts towards sustainable and environmentally friendly development.

In an exclusive interview, Eide highlighted the discussions and agreements made during Modi’s visit. He pointed out that it was the first time in 43 years that an Indian Prime Minister visited Oslo, and the reception was warm and welcoming. India, being the world’s largest democracy and a rapidly advancing economy, is on track to become the third-largest economy globally. Eide described India as a vital and innovative partner.

As global dynamics shift, Eide expressed optimism about Norway’s collaboration with India. He stated, “In changing global circumstances, there is a need to rethink old methods and traditional alliances, and it is great to move forward together with India.” He emphasized the strong partnership between the two nations, noting the recent productive meetings and positive outcomes from business roundtables.

Eide specifically mentioned the “Green Strategic Partnership,” which aims to advance economic growth while ensuring environmental sustainability. This initiative encompasses areas such as renewable energy, efficient energy use, circular economy, and sustainable development.

He remarked that investing in green energy could become the most cost-effective and profitable energy source in the long run, leading to energy independence for nations. This approach will elevate their partnership to new heights.

Discussing India’s economic growth, Eide stated, “It’s not just about rapid growth; it’s essential to ensure that this growth is of high quality and reaches all people equally. Development should be inclusive and environmentally friendly.”

He acknowledged that the world has yet to meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, but the situation has improved as countries now recognize the need for green growth.

Eide concluded, “Economic development, social progress, and environmental balance together create real and healthy growth.” He also praised India’s global role and responsible stance, emphasizing the importance of engaging with a significant country like India on global issues.

Praising Prime Minister Modi, he said, “He is a very popular leader in India and has played a vital role in securing a significant position for India on the global stage. I was pleased to have a long conversation with him on Monday night (May 18). I have a personal connection with India, having first visited in 1974, including a trip to Varanasi, the constituency of PM Modi.”
