
Ahmedabad, April 17: The Northern Gujarat postal sector has reported a remarkable revenue growth of 25.07% for the fiscal year 2025-26, reaching a total income of ₹246.79 crores, officials announced on Thursday.
This achievement is attributed to significant expansions in postal banking, insurance, parcel services, and citizen-centric delivery systems. According to data reviewed in a meeting held in Ahmedabad, this growth is based on robust performance across all seven operational areas identified by the Postal Directorate. Notably, the Post Office Savings Bank crossed the ₹100 crores mark for the first time, generating ₹101 crores in revenue, reflecting a 3.06% increase compared to the previous year.
The Postal Life Insurance segment earned ₹9.86 crores, marking a 28.68% rise, while Rural Postal Life Insurance recorded ₹6.57 crores, showing a growth of 15.78%. Parcel services emerged as a major growth driver, with revenue soaring to ₹48.20 crores, a staggering increase of 190.12%. Meanwhile, postal services contributed ₹59.04 crores, reflecting a 21.17% growth.
International postal services generated ₹8.55 crores, and citizen-centric services contributed ₹13.47 crores, indicating a 23.74% increase from the previous fiscal year. Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav stated that this performance reflects the department’s commitment to service delivery priorities.
Officials noted, “These achievements in the Northern Gujarat region demonstrate the postal department’s dedication to service quality, transparency, innovation, and public service, while also showing that the department is continuously working towards empowering all sections of society.”
The region also witnessed significant expansion in financial inclusion activities, with 8.84 lakh new Post Office Savings Bank accounts opened this year, bringing the total to over 43 lakh accounts. Among these, 2.94 lakh accounts were from the Ahmedabad city division, the highest in the Gujarat circle.
During this year, more than 26,000 individuals benefited from Postal Life Insurance and Rural Postal Life Insurance policies. In terms of rural outreach, 1,110 villages were declared ‘Complete Sukanya Samriddhi Villages,’ 400 as ‘Complete Savings Villages,’ and 791 as ‘Complete Insurance Villages,’ reflecting the expansion of savings and insurance coverage at the village level.
There was also an increase in citizen service delivery, with 4.19 lakh Aadhaar-related services provided through post offices across the region. Of these, 3.31 lakh services were completed at counters, while 88,000 services were delivered through doorstep services under the Common Services Enabled Logistics Channel (CELC).
Additionally, 68,702 passport applications were processed through Post Office Passport Service Centers. Assistant Director V.M. Vohra emphasized that various programs held across the region have further strengthened outreach activities.
He added, “To ensure last-mile connectivity of postal services, a total of 6,771 ‘Postal Chowpals’ were organized during various occasions such as National Postal Week, Independence Day, and Republic Day across Northern Gujarat.”
Assistant Director Alpesh Shah mentioned that the ‘Postal Warriors’ initiative has significantly contributed to monitoring performance and improving service delivery. Based on performance indicators, all 1,905 branch post offices in the region were designated as “Silver Postal Warriors,” 1,704 as “Gold Warriors,” 190 as “Diamond Warriors,” and 48 as “Platinum Warriors.”
He further noted that these results reflect the coordinated efforts of the leadership at the divisional and sub-divisional levels, along with postmasters and regional staff working diligently throughout the area.
