Noida, February 13: The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh has successfully dismantled an organized cyber gang involved in online betting fraud. Six suspects were arrested during this significant operation.
In addition, a mobile phone linked to the recovery email used in threatening messages sent to various schools in Noida was also seized. This phone is considered crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation. Notably, on January 23, 2026, several schools in Gautam Buddh Nagar received threatening emails, leading to the registration of case number 11/2026 under sections 351(4), 353(1)(B) BNS, and 66 of the IT Act at the Cyber Crime Police Station.
Technical analysis revealed that the threatening emails originated from the United States, while the associated recovery email was traced back to India and Bangladesh. Further investigation uncovered evidence of the email ID being logged in Sector 62, Noida. Acting on this information, the STF team conducted a raid in Shahberi, Bisrakh area, where they found the suspects along with a large cache of electronic devices.
Interrogation revealed that the gang operated an illegal online betting app disguised as a call center. They created fake email IDs resembling American names to lure individuals into investing. The gang also employed VPNs and fake GPS locations to facilitate their operations.
The victims of this fraud were primarily citizens from the United States, India, and Nepal. Among the arrested were Amis Jung Karki from Nepal, Anant Kumar, Divyashu, Sahil Kumar, Lekhnath Sharma, and Kedar Nath. Amis holds a BBA diploma from Australia, while Kedar Nath has a BBS and MBA, and Lekhnath has completed an MBA.

Authorities recovered four laptops, 22 mobile phones, two Nepali passports, two fake Aadhaar cards, four PAN cards, 16 debit/credit cards, a Nepali citizenship ID, a driving license, and ₹19,500 in cash from the suspects. STF officials stated that a thorough forensic examination of the seized mobile phones is underway, and further investigation into the threatening emails is ongoing.
This operation is being hailed as a significant success in the fight against cybercrime.
