Dewas, August 27: In preparation for the Raksha Bandhan festival, the food department and local administration in Dewas have launched a significant operation against synthetic and adulterated sweets. Inspections were conducted at various shops throughout the city, where samples of sweets made from synthetic mawa were collected. The tests revealed that both the mawa and the sweets were substandard.
According to reports, the administrative team took action at two shops in the city. During the inspection, synthetic mawa was discovered, along with sweets made from it. The food department has sent samples of the sweets and mawa for further testing. Authorities have seized the contaminated products and are proceeding with necessary actions.
Deputy Tehsildar Kapil Gurjar stated that a special inspection campaign is being conducted by the administration and food department in light of the upcoming festival. Many people purchase sweets during this time, prompting the need to check for adulterated and banned materials.
During the operation, approximately 600 kilograms of sweets made from mawa were confiscated. The team collected samples from the site, and further actions will be taken against the shop owners based on the test results. Shopkeepers have been instructed to prepare authentic sweets; those who fail to comply will face penalties.
Officials noted that the use and sale of synthetic mawa is prohibited. Despite this, reports of its use in certain areas of the city prompted the crackdown. The campaign will continue, with ongoing inspections to ensure the quality of food products during the festival.
The food department’s actions have created a climate of fear among sweet shop owners in the city. The administration has made it clear that strict measures will be taken against anyone using banned or harmful materials in food products. Authorities have also urged the public to pay attention to the quality and reliability of sweets and other food items they purchase.
