Guwahati, February 22: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the inauguration of a newly constructed integrated terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Borjhar on Sunday. This development is a significant achievement for Assam’s aviation infrastructure.

Speaking to reporters after the inauguration, the Chief Minister stated that the new terminal is designed to significantly enhance passenger capacity and improve the overall travel experience. This positions Guwahati as a key aviation gateway to Northeast India and neighboring Southeast Asian regions.

Sarma also revealed plans for two five-star hotels to be built near the airport terminal, anticipating an increase in both domestic and international travelers. He expressed hope that these hospitality projects would strengthen tourism infrastructure and create job opportunities for local residents.

Highlighting future expansion plans, the Chief Minister noted that given the rapidly growing air traffic in the region, the state government is exploring the possibility of constructing an additional terminal at the airport within the next two years.

He further mentioned that the government aims to develop an ‘aero hub’ in Borjhar, similar to major aviation centers like Delhi.

“Our goal is to transform Guwahati into a leading aviation and logistics hub for the entire Northeast,” Sarma stated. The proposed aero hub is expected to enhance connectivity, promote trade, tourism, and investment, while reducing dependence on metropolitan areas outside the region.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the new integrated terminal reflects Assam’s aspirations for economic development and its emergence as a major connectivity and commercial center in Eastern India.

He added that the project has been implemented with a focus on modern architecture, sustainable development, and passenger-friendly facilities.

According to airport officials, the integrated terminal is equipped with modern amenities, advanced security infrastructure, expanded check-in counters, improved baggage management systems, and enhanced parking and road transport connectivity.

Sarma concluded by stating that the expansion of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport will play a crucial role in supporting Assam’s development agenda through improved connectivity, attracting investments, and boosting tourism.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to working in coordination with the Indian Aviation Authority and the central government to further strengthen aviation infrastructure in Assam.

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is the busiest airport in Northeast India and serves as a vital transport hub connecting the region to major cities across India.
