Tel Aviv, April 10: In a significant escalation of tensions, Israel launched a major attack on Hezbollah in Lebanon just hours after the U.S. announced a ceasefire with Iran. This military action has drawn widespread international condemnation. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif, who mediated the ceasefire, made remarks that provoked a strong reaction from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu issued a direct warning to Pakistan, stating that Israel cannot tolerate calls for its destruction. He expressed his outrage on the social media platform X, saying, “The call by Pakistan’s Defense Minister to eliminate Israel is unacceptable. This is a statement that no government can tolerate, especially one that claims to be a neutral arbiter for peace.”
In his post, Asif described Israel as a curse for humanity, highlighting the ongoing peace talks in Islamabad while condemning the massacre occurring in Lebanon. He accused Israel of killing innocent civilians, stating, “First Gaza, then Iran, and now Lebanon; the bloodshed continues.”
Asif further inflamed tensions by expressing hope that those responsible for establishing what he termed a “cancerous state” on Palestinian land would face dire consequences.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned Israel’s actions, emphasizing the loss of thousands of lives in Lebanon due to the ongoing attacks. He communicated with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam following the assault.
Sharif stated on X, “I spoke with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam today. I condemned Israel’s relentless attacks against Lebanon and expressed sorrow over the loss of lives due to these hostilities. I reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating peace through the ongoing Iran-U.S. discussions in Islamabad.”
He thanked Prime Minister Salam for acknowledging Pakistan’s peace efforts and emphasized the need for immediate support to end the attacks targeting Lebanon and its people.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry condemned Israel’s actions, stating they undermine international efforts for peace and stability in the region, violating international law and fundamental humanitarian principles. Pakistan urges the international community to take immediate and concrete steps to halt Israel’s attacks on Lebanon.
It is noteworthy that Israel’s significant assault on Lebanon occurred just hours after the ceasefire between the U.S.-Israel and Iran was implemented, resulting in over 300 fatalities and more than 1,100 injuries.
