Nepals New Prime Minister Balendra Shah Sworn In Amid Promising Cabinet Appointments

Kathmandu, March 27: Balendra Shah, popularly known as Balen Shah, has taken the oath of office as Nepal’s new Prime Minister. At just 35 years old, he represents the Gen-Z leadership and has achieved a significant milestone. On this occasion, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to PM Shah.

In a message on the social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “Congratulations to Balendra Shah on taking the oath as Prime Minister of Nepal. Your appointment reflects the trust the people of Nepal have placed in your leadership. I look forward to working together to elevate the friendship and cooperation between India and Nepal for the mutual benefit of our peoples.”

With Balendra Shah’s ascension to the Prime Minister’s office, the National Independent Party (RSP) has also finalized several ministerial appointments. According to Nepali media sources, Swarnim Wagale will serve as the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister. Additionally, Shishir Khanal has been appointed as Foreign Minister, Biraj Bhakt Shrestha as Energy Minister, and Sudhan Gurung as Home Minister. Pratibha Rawal will take on the role of General Administration Minister. Other key appointments include Amresh Singh for the Industrial Ministry, Sobita Gautam for the Law Ministry, Nisha Mehta for Health and Drinking Water, Sunil Lamsal for Physical Infrastructure, and Sita Badi for Women and Child Welfare. Sasmita Pokhrel will oversee Education, Science, and Technology.

The Himalayan Times reported that Vikram Timilsina, elected from Nuwakot-1, will serve as the Minister of Communication and Information, while Deepak Shah from Mahottari will take on the role of Labor Minister.

According to the Himalayan Times, the following individuals will manage various departments in Balendra Shah’s government:

– Shishir Khanal – Foreign Minister
– Sudhan Gurung – Home Minister
– Pratibha Rawal – Central Affairs and General Administration Minister
– Khadka Raj Poudel – Tourism Minister
– Amresh Singh – Industry Minister
– Sunil Lamsal – Physical Infrastructure, Transport, and Urban Development Minister
– Geeta Chaudhary – Agriculture, Livestock Development, Forest, and Environment Minister
– Sasmita Pokhrel – Education, Science, Technology, and Sports Minister
– Nisha Mehta – Health and Population Minister
– Sita Badi – Women, Children, and Senior Citizens Minister
– Sobita Gautam – Law Minister
– Biraj Bhakt Shrestha – Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Minister
– Vikram Timilsina – Information and Communication Minister
– Deepak Kumar Shah – Labor and Employment Minister

The President’s office stated that President Ram Chandra Poudel appointed Balendra Shah, the former mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, to this position under Article 76(1) of the Constitution.

On Thursday, the RSP elected Shah as the leader of its parliamentary party, paving the way for him to become the 47th Prime Minister of Nepal. Notably, the RSP secured a significant victory in the recent parliamentary elections, winning nearly two-thirds of the seats.
