Glasgow, August 1: In a thrilling event at the Commonwealth Games 2026, India celebrated two medal wins in the Men’s Javelin Throw late Friday night (Indian time). Neeraj Chopra clinched the silver medal with a throw of 85.83 meters, while Yashveer Singh secured bronze with a distance of 85.41 meters. The gold medal was won by Sri Lanka’s Rumes Tharanga Pathiraja, who achieved a remarkable throw of 89.75 meters.
Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra started strong with a throw of 80.97 meters on his first attempt. He then delivered his season’s best throw of 85.83 meters. In his subsequent attempts, Neeraj recorded distances of 81.29 meters and 80.73 meters. The gold medalist, Rumes Tharanga Pathiraja, dominated the event with his impressive throw of 89.75 meters.
Yashveer Singh also showcased his talent, starting with a throw of 78.55 meters on his second attempt. He improved to 81.33 meters in his next throw. Despite a setback with a 76.95-meter throw in his fifth attempt, his final throw of 85.41 meters proved to be a game-changer and marked his personal best.
Additionally, Rohit Yadav finished in seventh place with a throw of 81.56 meters. He began with a 77.50-meter throw, followed by 81.56 meters in his second attempt. His other attempts included 73.70 meters and 79.55 meters.
With these achievements, India has now secured a total of 23 medals at the Commonwealth Games 2026, comprising 5 gold, 12 silver, and 6 bronze medals. The country has excelled in athletics and para-athletics, winning a total of 11 medals. In judo, India bagged 3 medals, including 2 golds. The weightlifting team contributed 8 medals, while para powerlifting added 1 bronze to the tally. Currently, India stands in 10th place in the medal rankings, while Australia leads with a total of 128 medals (55 gold, 30 silver, 43 bronze). England follows in second place with 80 medals, and Canada holds third with 53 medals.
