Glasgow, August 1: The Indian team has achieved remarkable success in judo at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Just after Asmita Day secured a gold medal, Harsh Singh followed suit by winning another gold. On Friday, in the men’s 60 kg judo final, Harsh Singh defeated Australia’s Joshua Katz to claim the top prize.
The 23-year-old Singh faced tough competition from Katz initially. However, with just 41 seconds remaining, he launched a powerful attack. Harsh executed a stunning waza-ari—judo’s second-highest scoring technique—and maintained a strong defense for the remaining four minutes, securing a memorable victory.
Earlier, Asmita Day had also won a gold medal, setting a record as the first Indian to achieve this feat in Commonwealth Games history. On Friday, in the women’s 48 kg final, Asmita triumphed over Canada’s Heidi Quach, winning 2-1 in an exciting and closely contested match. She displayed remarkable strategic skills and defensive discipline, marking her biggest victory in the Commonwealth Games campaign.
Harsh Singh’s gold medal, following Asmita’s, highlights India’s growing dominance in this sport on a global scale.
With more medals anticipated, India’s judo prospects look bright. Yamini Maurya has advanced to the finals in the women’s 57 kg category after defeating South Africa’s Donne Breytenbach with an ippon. She is expected to compete for gold against England’s Aseelia Toprak in the final.
