New Delhi, July 29: During the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, BJP MPs accused Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of engaging in political rhetoric instead of discussing the bill. The opposition, in turn, accused the government of ignoring student-related issues and evading serious questions.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju responded to Rahul Gandhi’s statements, asserting that the level of discourse in parliamentary democracy should be dignified and respectful. He alleged that Rahul Gandhi consistently uses language that is not conducive to a democratic system. While political differences are part of democracy, leaders should communicate in a civil and courteous manner.
Rijiju criticized Congress’s stance on the bill, stating that Congress members raised only political issues instead of discussing the bill’s provisions. He emphasized that this is a crucial law related to students’ interests, and the opposition should engage in serious discussions about it. The government has introduced a robust bill considering students’ demands, which has increased students’ trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decisions.
He urged the Congress party to present any suggestions regarding examination systems or student-related issues in Parliament. Rijiju accused the opposition of attempting to divert attention from the real issues. He appealed to Rahul Gandhi to dedicate at least some time in his speeches to discussing the actual provisions of the bill.
Union Minister of State Sanjay Seth accused the opposition of a double standard. He stated that democracy operates on the principles of accountability to the public, but the opposition does not take these responsibilities seriously.
Referring to alleged paper leak cases in Jharkhand, Seth questioned Rahul Gandhi and opposition leaders about when they would protest against the state government and demand an investigation. He claimed that continuous irregularities related to examinations have emerged in Jharkhand.
Seth noted that there have been previous concerns regarding exams like JPSC and JSSC. He asserted that the examination agency in question has faced scrutiny before, yet it was still entrusted with conducting the exams.
Using the example of the assistant teacher recruitment exam, he pointed out that despite thousands of vacancies, the process has been delayed, leading to ongoing disputes over results. Seth alleged that distrust among students regarding government jobs is growing, and the state government should take responsibility for this.
BJP MP Shashank Mani Tripathi stated that the core issue of discussion in Parliament was different, but the opposition diverted the debate. He criticized Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi for making grand statements while failing to understand students’ struggles and real circumstances.
Tripathi defended Union Minister Prahlad Joshi, asserting that he is a senior party leader with significant political experience. He claimed that the allegations against Joshi are baseless and unrelated to the bill.
He emphasized that the government’s goal is to secure and strengthen students’ futures, while Congress attempts to politicize the issue. He accused Congress of trying to take such matters to the streets due to its weakening political ground.
BJP MP Aditya Prasad Sahu also targeted the Jharkhand government, alleging that the government, supported by Congress, has faced continuous paper leak cases during its tenure.
Sahu mentioned the JPSC and JSSC exams, asserting that students’ futures are being jeopardized. He raised concerns about deaths during the Excise Constable exam and demanded accountability from the government.
He called for an investigation into the alleged irregularities in the exams by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Sahu insisted that families of the deceased students should receive financial assistance, accusing the state government of attempting to suppress the truth through its agencies.
BJP MP Satish Poonia remarked that Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi inherited their political legacy, whereas Prahlad Joshi built his reputation through hard work and organizational efforts. He stated that the accusations against Joshi lack any foundation.
BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal emphasized that respecting Supreme Court decisions is the duty of every responsible individual. He stated that accepting the decisions of constitutional institutions is part of a democratic system.
BJP MP Rekha Sharma dismissed Priyanka Gandhi’s comments as unfounded. She accused Congress of attempting to politicize the education-related bill, which is fundamentally a matter concerning students’ interests.
