National Science Awards 2026: Applications Open Until May 11

New Delhi, March 28: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh announced on Saturday that nominations are now open for the National Science Awards (RVP) 2026. These awards aim to recognize outstanding contributions in the fields of science, technology, and innovation.

Nominations can be submitted online through the government’s awards portal from March 28 to May 11.

According to Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Minister of State for Science and Technology (Independent Charge), these awards are administered by the RVP Secretariat under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), which is chaired by the government’s Principal Scientific Advisor.

The National Science Awards honor scientists, technologists, and innovators whose work significantly contributes to India’s scientific advancement and national development.

Nominations, including self-nominations, are open in various fields such as agricultural science, nuclear energy, biology, chemistry, defense technology, geoscience, engineering, environmental science, mathematics and computer science, medicine, physics, space science and technology, and innovation.

The awards will be presented in four categories: the Science Ratna for lifetime achievement, the Science Shri for distinguished contributions, the Science Young Scientist Award for scientists aged 45 and under, and the Science Team Award for collaborative excellence involving three or more researchers.

In the meantime, the Union Minister emphasized that these awards reflect the government’s commitment to promoting excellence and innovation within the scientific ecosystem.

He stated, “The National Science Awards demonstrate the government’s dedication to fostering excellence in science, technology, and innovation. These awards honor the curiosity and dedication of scientists and innovators who contribute to India’s emergence as a global knowledge leader.”

He also urged institutions, industry bodies, and individuals to actively participate in the nomination process to ensure a broad recognition of scientific talent across the country.

Highlighting the significance of the awards, Jitendra Singh noted that their aim is to strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem and recognize contributions across various fields.
