New Delhi, March 12: In a thrilling One Day International (ODI) match held in Dhaka, Bangladesh triumphed over Pakistan by eight wickets. Fast bowler Naheed Rana played a pivotal role in this victory, claiming five wickets for just 24 runs in seven overs. He attributed his remarkable bowling performance to fast bowling coach Shaun Tait.
After the match, Rana spoke to the media, stating, “Honestly, Tait is an excellent coach. He interacts with us not just as a coach but as a friend. He always encourages us to stick to our strengths and tells us to reach out if we need anything. He says, ‘Whatever you need, just let me know. I’m here to guide you. You will play on the field, and I will provide you with the plan. It’s up to you to execute it and win the match.’ He constantly motivates us to perform well.”
Bowling at speeds of 140 kilometers per hour, Rana expressed his thoughts after taking five wickets in an ODI for the first time, saying, “To be honest, I don’t think much about speed. In international cricket, skill matters more than pace. Therefore, I am focusing on improving my skills.”
Rana further explained, “Initially, Mustafizur and Taskin were bowling. I was discussing with them what was happening on the wicket. They advised me that if you hit the right areas or maintain the correct line and length, it becomes difficult for the batsman to play. So, I tried to implement that on the field. I have played many matches on this ground before, so I tried to use that experience. For me, every wicket is special.”
Between 2005 and 2016, Rana took five wickets in three Tests, 62 wickets in 35 ODIs, and 28 wickets in 21 T20 matches for Australia. His career has been affected by injuries.
