New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton of Nagaland met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Friday to discuss various state-related issues. Following the meeting, Rio expressed gratitude on social media, stating they sought Shah’s intervention and support to expedite Nagaland’s developmental aspirations.
Patton echoed these sentiments, highlighting their meaningful discussions about the state’s development priorities and the welfare of its citizens. He thanked Shah for his ongoing attention to Nagaland’s needs.
In a related development, the Nagaland Assembly recently passed a government resolution urging the central government to review and withdraw the current Protected Area Permit (PAP) system in the state. This resolution was unanimously adopted during the ninth session of the 14th Nagaland Assembly.
The proposal, presented by Patton, who also oversees home and border affairs, emphasized Nagaland’s peaceful environment and its growing potential in tourism, culture, investment, and international engagement. The Assembly recognized that tourism and creative sectors have become significant sources of employment and livelihood, particularly for the youth.
Additionally, the Assembly noted that various civil society organizations, tribal bodies, and entrepreneurs have consistently expressed the desire to either withdraw the PAP system or ease its restrictions. The PAP, established under the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order of 1958, regulates and limits foreign nationals’ entry into designated areas of Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram.
