Mystery Surrounds Family Deaths in Mumbai After Watermelon Consumption

Mumbai, May 7: A mysterious case involving the deaths of four family members in Mumbai’s Bhendi Bazaar area remains unresolved. A microbiology report from JJ Hospital revealed no signs of suspicious elements or bacterial infections in the deceased after they consumed watermelon. The report has been forwarded to the Mumbai police for further investigation.

According to police officials, tests on the victims’ stomach contents, blood samples, and food remnants showed no presence of microorganisms or infections. This finding has completely ruled out the possibility of infectious diseases, deepening the mystery surrounding the case. Investigators are now relying on an upcoming report from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to determine the next steps in the investigation.

The deceased have been identified as Nasirin Dokadia (35), Aisha Dokadia (16), Abdullah Dokadia (44), and Jainab Dokadia (12). All four family members were hospitalized on April 26 after suddenly falling ill.

Family members reported that they began vomiting after consuming watermelon the previous night. Their condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to their deaths.

Police officials stated that there is currently no evidence of foul play or suspicious activity in the investigation. However, the exact cause of death remains unknown. Authorities are awaiting toxicology and other scientific reports from the Forensic Science Laboratory to ascertain whether the deaths were caused by a toxic substance or other unknown factors.

A police officer emphasized the importance of the FSL report, as it is expected to clarify whether poison or any external factors contributed to the fatalities.

Despite the microbiology report dismissing the possibility of infection and finding nothing suspicious, the case remains shrouded in mystery. Both the Mumbai police and the health department are awaiting the final forensic report to uncover the true cause of this tragic incident.

In the ongoing investigation, the Mumbai police have recorded statements from over ten individuals related to the case. Initial statements from the four ill individuals and their treating local doctor have also been documented. Additionally, police have interrogated the watermelon vendor and all attendees at the family gathering, officially recording their statements.
