Monsoon Retreats from Northern India, Brings Rain to Several States

New Delhi, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : The southwest monsoon has begun its retreat from northern India, impacting states such as Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and parts of Maharashtra. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Saturday that conditions favorable for the monsoon’s withdrawal are expected to persist over the next two to three days.

The current monsoon withdrawal line runs from 27.5 degrees north latitude and 86.5 degrees east longitude, passing through Supaul, Ranchi, Raipur, Brahmapuri, Parbhani, Baramati, and Harnai, down to 17.5 degrees north latitude and 71.8 degrees east longitude.

According to the IMD, favorable conditions for the further retreat of the southwest monsoon are likely in Marathwada, Vidarbha, most parts of Bihar and Jharkhand, central Maharashtra, and additional areas of Chhattisgarh, as well as parts of Telangana and north interior Karnataka over the coming days.

In the last 24 hours, Tripura experienced heavy rainfall, registering between 7 to 11 centimeters. The IMD also predicts continued heavy rain in Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh on October 3.

From October 4 to 6, heavy rainfall is expected at various locations in Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Additionally, heavy rain is forecast for parts of south interior Karnataka on October 5 and 6.

Currently, multiple weather systems are active across the country. A cyclonic circulation is present in the upper atmosphere over northeastern Assam and nearby regions. Other cyclonic circulations are located in the west-central Arabian Sea, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, the southeastern Arabian Sea, and the Lakshadweep area.

Cyclonic circulations are also affecting the Comorin region and southern coastal Andhra Pradesh. A trough, or a cyclonic system, extends from northwestern Uttar Pradesh to north Gujarat in the mid-troposphere.

The IMD has indicated that light to moderate rainfall may occur in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad from October 6 to 8, as well as in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from October 5 to 9.

Light rain is likely in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Punjab from October 6 to 9. Western Uttar Pradesh may see light rain on October 6 and 7, while eastern Uttar Pradesh could experience similar weather from October 5 to 8. Widespread rain is anticipated in the Jammu and Kashmir region on October 9.

During this period, some areas may experience strong winds and thunderstorms. In Himachal Pradesh, winds could reach speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, with showers expected from October 6 to 8, while Uttarakhand may see similar conditions from October 5 to 7.

In central India, light to moderate rain is forecast for western Madhya Pradesh on October 8 and 9, eastern Madhya Pradesh from October 7 to 9, and Chhattisgarh from October 5 to 9.

The IMD has warned that despite the monsoon’s retreat, active weather systems in various regions may continue to bring rainfall in the coming days.
