Mizoram Police Arrest Drug Trafficker with ₹2.91 Crore Worth of Heroin
Mizoram police apprehended a trafficker from Manipur, seizing 1.457 kg of heroin valued at ₹2.91 crore during a routine check.

Aizawl, October 21 (Daily Kiran) : Mizoram police have arrested a drug trafficker from the neighboring state of Manipur, seizing 1.457 kilograms of heroin valued at approximately ₹2.91 crore.
A senior police officer reported that a special team conducted a random check in Keifang, located in the Saitual district, on Tuesday night. They stopped a white Maruti Suzuki Brezza driven by 24-year-old Thangminlun Baite, a resident of Kangpokpi district in Manipur.
Baite was heading towards Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, when police suspected him of transporting illegal drugs. With independent witnesses present, authorities conducted a thorough search of the vehicle. They discovered heroin concealed in soap boxes, with a total of 100 boxes containing the drugs. Baite was arrested on the spot. Investigations are underway to trace the drug trafficking network, including the source of the narcotics and their intended destination.
Mizoram and Manipur have become significant routes for drug trafficking in the northeast, largely due to their long, open international borders with Myanmar and proximity to the infamous “Golden Triangle,” a major hub for drug production worldwide.
The Golden Triangle, encompassing parts of Myanmar, Laos, and Thailand, has long been associated with the illegal production and trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances. The proximity of India’s northeastern states poses a substantial challenge for security forces and anti-drug agencies working to curb cross-border drug smuggling.
Mizoram shares a 910-kilometer-long international border with six districts in Mizoram and five in Manipur. A significant portion of this border remains unfenced, increasing the risk of smuggling and other illegal activities related to narcotics. The region is known for trafficking highly addictive substances, including methamphetamine pills, heroin, foreign cigarettes, fertilizers, and other banned goods.
Security agencies in both northeastern states are actively conducting operations to combat drug trafficking, aiming to dismantle networks operating across international borders and disrupt trafficking routes within the region.
