Minister Suresh Gopi Visits Historic Tawang Monastery, Calls Northeast a Land of Gods

Union Minister Suresh Gopi emphasizes the spiritual significance of Northeast India during his visit to Tawang Monastery.

Tawang, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : Union Minister of State for Tourism and Petroleum, Suresh Gopi, alongside Meghalaya’s Tourism Minister, Timothy D. Shira, visited the historic Tawang Monastery in Arunachal Pradesh on October 30. This visit coincided with the 14th International Tourism Mart (ITM), where both leaders participated in prayers and explored the rich heritage of Buddhism.

During the visit, Gopi shared insights on the spiritual and cultural importance of the Northeast. He remarked that every trip to the region offers a unique experience. “Whenever you come to the Northeast, it feels entirely new,” he stated, expressing his deep faith.

He emphasized the connection between nature and spirituality. “If we see God in the elements of nature, we must understand that nature is the foundation of life. Protecting these elements is vital for our future and development,” he explained. Gopi also warned that certain developmental activities can disrupt nature’s balance, leading to disasters like landslides.

The minister conveyed a belief that a close relationship with God requires love, not fear. He noted, “To get closer to God, you must love Him. This focus will guide your actions and thoughts.”

Gopi described his visit to Tawang Monastery as a profound spiritual experience. “Every time I enter a monastery, I feel a new connection that purifies my soul,” he said. He compared this experience to visiting temples, highlighting the unique spiritual engagement found in such sacred places.

He praised the Northeast, suggesting it deserves to be called a “land of gods” due to its blessings and the goodness of its people. “If you have heard negative things about them, spend a few days with the people of the Northeast. You will discover their true nature and loyalty as Indians,” he encouraged.

Meghalaya’s Tourism Minister, Timothy D. Shira, also expressed admiration for the grandeur of Tawang Monastery. He noted, “This is one of the largest monasteries in the region, and I was particularly interested in seeing it. Having visited monasteries in Ladakh and Sikkim, I was told this is among the most impressive, and it truly is.”

Shira highlighted the monastery’s significance, mentioning that over 500 monks live there with dedication. He remarked on the attraction it holds for tourists, stating that anyone visiting Tawang inevitably comes to see this remarkable site.
