
New Delhi, March 9: Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (JKPDP), visited the Iranian embassy on Monday to pay her respects to the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Prior to her visit, members of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) also expressed their condolences.
Mufti shared details of her visit on the social media platform X, stating that she met with Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Fathali alongside Budgam MLA Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi. Despite the somber atmosphere and uncertainty, she was impressed by the warmth and courtesy of the embassy staff, highlighting it as a powerful testament to the resilience of the Iranian people.
Before her, a delegation from the National Conference, including Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo, and Gurvinder Singh Oberoi, signed the condolence book at the Islamic Republic of Iran’s embassy.
The delegation met with Dr. Mohammad Fathali, the ambassador of Iran in India, where they expressed their deep sorrow and signed the condolence register. They conveyed condolences on behalf of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, JKNC president Farooq Abdullah, and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The MPs stated that such actions are a clear violation of international law and pose a serious threat to peace and stability in the region.
JKNC leaders prayed for the peace of the departed soul and expressed hope for lasting peace and stability in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
On Friday, a delegation from the Congress Party also visited the embassy to express their condolences for Khamenei’s passing. Senior party leaders Salman Khurshid and Pawan Khera were part of the delegation, which paid tribute in the condolence book and expressed sympathy to the Iranian government and people.
Congress leaders conveyed their deep condolences regarding this tragic event and prayed for the peace of the departed soul, sharing the information on their official X handle.
On March 5, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with the Iranian ambassador to express condolences over Khamenei’s death and signed the condolence register.
