New Delhi, May 15: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced on Friday that the state’s economy has doubled in the past five years. He highlighted Meghalaya’s rapid infrastructure development and investment potential during the inauguration of the ‘North-East India Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition 2026’ in the national capital.
The inauguration ceremony, held at Meghalaya House in New Delhi, presented a roadmap for the two-day summit scheduled for June 11 and 12 in Shillong.
The summit is expected to bring together central ministers, chief ministers from all northeastern states, policymakers, investors, infrastructure developers, financial institutions, and industry leaders.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma stated that Meghalaya has emerged as one of the fastest-growing economies in the country, maintaining consistent growth over recent years.
He noted that the state’s economy has doubled in the last five years, with capital investment increasing fourfold compared to 2018.
Sangma emphasized that the state government has launched significant incentives under the Meghalaya Industrial Incentive Policy to attract investments across all sectors. He stressed that Meghalaya has built one of the strongest entrepreneurial ecosystems among the country’s smaller states.
Highlighting the development of the information technology sector, Sangma mentioned that the state’s first IT park is already operating at full capacity, while the upcoming second IT park has attracted considerable interest from national and global companies.
He added that the government is now focusing on expanding IT infrastructure to create more opportunities for the youth.
The Chief Minister also underscored Meghalaya’s growing reputation in tourism, sports, and the creative economy.
