Medvedev to miss French Open after minor surgery

Moscow, April 2 : World no 2 tennis player Daniil Medvedev’s participation in French Open Grand slam tournament is in doubt as he underwent hernia surgery. The Grand slam tournament will begin on May 22. Taking to Twitter on Saturday, Medvedev said: “Last months I have been playing with a small hernia. Together with my team I have decided to have a small procedure done to fix the problem. I will likely be out for the next 1 – 2 months and will work hard to be back on court soon.” After losing to Spain’s Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final in January, the Russian became the world number one for the first time in his career at the end of February. But he was replaced by Novak Djokovic of Serbia after three weeks. The 26-year-old had a chance to return to top in ATP rankings but he missed out on it after losing to Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in the Miami Open quarterfinal on Thursday. BAV SHK2040
