New Delhi, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : In a striking political development, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has announced her intention to contest the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections independently. This decision has drawn sharp criticism from Congress MP Imran Masood, who asserts that it could significantly damage the BSP’s electoral prospects.
Masood expressed his concerns during a recent interview, stating, “Who is stopping her from contesting alone? The outcome will likely see the BSP’s share plummet from 12% to 6%. This will primarily impact them, not anyone else.” He emphasized that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been fostering animosity towards Dalits, a reality that is becoming increasingly clear to the community.
Highlighting the political landscape, Masood noted that both the Samajwadi Party and Congress are collaborating for the elections. He reaffirmed that Congress has historically been the party that champions Dalit rights, suggesting that this legacy will continue to attract Dalit support.
On the topic of seat allocation, he downplayed its significance, indicating that the party leadership would manage those decisions.
In response to recent comments made by actress Swara Bhaskar regarding women, Masood clarified, “I have read her statement where she claims she did not say anything of that nature.”
Addressing the issue of reservations, religious leader Aniruddhacharya recently suggested that benefits should be directed solely towards those living below the poverty line. Masood countered this by explaining that reservations were established to rectify historical injustices faced by marginalized communities and to integrate them into the mainstream.
Furthermore, Masood criticized External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s recent visit to Ukraine, questioning the effectiveness of such diplomatic efforts and reiterating India’s stance as a proponent of peace.
Reacting to Uttar Pradesh Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar’s remarks about the PDA, Masood dismissed them as nonsensical, reminding that Rajbhar had previously benefited from the same support he now criticizes.
