New Delhi, April 15: Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced on Wednesday that it has intensified its efforts to promote gender diversity, with the total number of female employees now exceeding 1,300. This increase is attributed to a rise in female recruitment at the Gurugram and Manesar plants.
Over the past two years, the company has consistently increased the hiring of women in technical roles such as vehicle manufacturing, engine production, and transmission. These female employees are now handling critical tasks on the shop floor, including assembly line operations and quality control, where precision and consistency are essential.
The company stated that female employees receive training and skill development programs equivalent to their male counterparts, ensuring equal opportunities for career advancement.
Hiroshi Takeyuchi, the company’s Managing Director and CEO, noted that women have already been well-represented in departments like engineering, marketing, sales, finance, legal, logistics, and supply chain. He emphasized that true participation is evident when women contribute directly to vehicle manufacturing on the shop floor. He expressed a personal desire to further increase the number of women in these roles.
To enhance female participation, the company has implemented several initiatives, including an internal survey that led to improvements in infrastructure for better facilities and safety for women.
These enhancements include separate restrooms, changing areas, crèche facilities, and security measures such as guards and patrols during evening shifts.
Additionally, the company has launched sensitization programs for employees to foster an inclusive and open workplace environment.
Maruti Suzuki has also ensured that all employees participate in 100% of the Sexual Harassment Prevention (POSH) training, maintaining safety and awareness at the workplace.
