New Delhi, April 8: RJD MP Manoj Jha expressed serious concerns regarding the escalating violence surrounding the West Bengal elections. In a recent conversation, he held the Election Commission accountable for the deteriorating situation. Jha highlighted a consistent decline in the Commission’s performance, referencing its history from Sukumar Sen to the present, and warned that this trend would likely continue in the upcoming elections.
He also addressed TMC MP Derek O’Brien’s remarks, stating that the recent meeting was far from amicable. Jha criticized the Chief Election Commissioner for failing to distinguish between hearing and listening, asserting that the Commission’s approach lacks genuine engagement.
Discussing the political climate in Assam, Jha lamented the decline in linguistic dignity and decorum over the past 12-13 years. He emphasized that if this trend continues, it would pose challenges to democracy and affect everyone adversely. He pointed to social media and its algorithms as contributors to this issue, noting that many promote it for temporary appeal.
Commenting on the actions of Assam police at Pawan Khera’s residence following an FIR filed by the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Jha condemned the selective outrage as detrimental to democracy. He insisted that if the allegations are baseless, they should be addressed appropriately by investigative agencies.
On the recent ceasefire announcement between the U.S. and Iran, Jha remarked that it is a moment the world has long awaited. He recalled the attacks on Iranian schools by Israel and the U.S., which resulted in the tragic deaths of young girls. He asserted that the cessation of hostilities was inevitable.
Jha noted that while the situation is not a straightforward case for the U.S., the recent comments from the American president about erasing a civilization indicate a misunderstanding of how civilizations endure. He expressed hope that this temporary ceasefire could pave the way for lasting peace and stability worldwide.
