Mamata Banerjee Accuses BJP of Sabotaging Martyrs Day Rally

Kolkata, July 21: Former Chief Minister of West Bengal and leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Mamata Banerjee, has made serious allegations against the BJP, claiming they are attempting to sabotage the upcoming Martyrs’ Day rally. She asserted that there was vandalism on the stage prior to the event and that efforts were made to prevent supporters from attending.

Banerjee alleged that BJP workers damaged the rally stage set up in front of the Birla Planetarium in central Kolkata on Monday night, aiming to disrupt the event. Upon learning of the situation, she, along with her nephew and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and other leaders, rushed to the scene. They took turns ensuring the security of the stage throughout the night.

“We are being prevented from gathering. The police are threatening the families of martyrs not to participate in the event. We are organizing this program to pay tribute to the martyrs, yet our stage is being destroyed. Power and microphone lines have been cut. Posters and banners have been torn down. About 60 BJP-affiliated goons carried out these acts, led by an individual currently out on bail. From the beginning, the police and BJP have conspired to thwart this event,” she stated.

Banerjee emphasized that her faction is holding the rally in accordance with a court order at the Birla Planetarium. She accused the police administration of contempt of court by obstructing the rally. She warned that if this situation persists, they would file a petition for contempt of court against the state government and police administration.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal Congress has also claimed that its supporters are being blocked from reaching Kolkata. The Congress plans to hold a parallel rally in front of the Martyrs’ Memorial at Esplanade on the same occasion.

State Congress President Subhankar Sarkar issued a statement claiming that BJP workers vandalized a bus filled with Congress activists traveling from Durgapur to Kolkata. He also alleged that similar attacks occurred against Congress supporters in Potashpur, East Midnapore. However, there has been no immediate official response from the parties involved regarding these allegations.
