Bamako, April 28: The Mali army has reported the elimination of over 100 militants in a significant operation in the western region of Koulikoro. This information was released in a statement on Sunday.
According to the army’s general staff, a search operation was initiated following terrorist attacks on Saturday. During this operation, the army’s air systems detected a convoy of motorcycles heading towards a militant hideout west of Kolokani.
Subsequently, an airstrike was carried out, resulting in the deaths of more than 100 militants and the destruction of their equipment. This was reported by the Xinhua News Agency. The army also stated that the pursuit of militants will continue across the country.
In a statement released on Saturday, the government disclosed that several military bases and areas, including the garrison town of Kati near the capital Bamako, were targeted in the attacks.
Local sources indicated that Mali’s Defense Minister Sadio Kamara was killed in an attack at his home in Kati, along with his second wife.
Sources reported that on Saturday, militants launched simultaneous attacks in various cities across the country, injuring 16 individuals. The government confirmed that the assaults occurred in Kati, Sévaré, Gao, Kidal, and the capital Bamako.
The injured included both civilians and military personnel, all of whom have been hospitalized. The government stated that the damage was not extensive. The Indian embassy in Mali has urged Indian nationals residing there to remain vigilant.
The embassy advised individuals to exercise caution, stay indoors, and follow local authorities’ directives in light of the recent attacks. They also mentioned that they are monitoring the situation in collaboration with the Malian government and will provide further updates as necessary.
