Major Infrastructure Improvements Completed on NH-44 in Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi, March 13: The central government has achieved another significant milestone in strengthening road infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced that several critical projects related to safety and passenger amenities have been completed on National Highway-44 at a cost of approximately ₹171.25 crores.

On Friday, Gadkari shared the news on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “We have completed several important works related to safety and passenger facilities on National Highway-44, with a total project cost of ₹171.25 crores. These initiatives include improvements at the ‘Sidco’ Chowk and the black spots on the Gole Mela–Sangur section, construction of an LVUP along the service road in Samba, and the development of modern wayside amenities in Jhajjar Kotli, Qazigund, and Marhama.”

He noted that these locations were identified as accident-prone areas and high-traffic conflict points along the highway. The implemented improvements have enhanced traffic flow, made turning at intersections safer, and improved road conditions, significantly increasing safety and reducing traffic congestion.

Gadkari also mentioned that the developed wayside amenities on this route provide rest areas, parking facilities, food courts, and sanitation services for travelers, tourists, and truck drivers using this vital corridor.

Sharing images of the national highway on ‘X’, he added, “These improvements will make the movement of passenger and freight vehicles on National Highway-44 smoother and safer. NH-44 is a crucial route connecting Jammu to the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country.”

The minister emphasized that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is fully committed to strengthening highway infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir to promote connectivity, economic development, and tourism.
