Chaibasa, May 18: In a significant operation, police in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district have uncovered a major human trafficking racket. A joint team from the police and the labor department raided a hotel, rescuing 36 workers and six minors.
The action was based on a tip-off received by the police. It was reported that a large number of male and female workers, along with children, were being housed in a hotel in Chakradharpur, with plans to send them to other states. Upon receiving this information, the police took swift action. Under the direction of the Senior Superintendent of Police, a special team was formed, comprising officials from the police, labor department, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), and Childline.
During the raid, the team found several workers and children at the hotel. The police also seized a bus belonging to Rajlaxmi Travels, which was allegedly intended to transport the workers to Gujarat. Among the six rescued minors, there were five boys and one girl. All the children have been handed over to Childline Chaibasa under the directives of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
Authorities are currently gathering more information from the remaining workers. In connection with this case, two individuals from Morbi, Gujarat, have been arrested. They have been identified as Nikunj Govind Borsaniya and Kadivar Nilesh Bhai. Both are accused of luring workers and children to transport them to other states.
The police have filed charges against the two under the Indian Penal Code and child labor laws, and they have been sent to jail. The police are now collaborating with the labor department to investigate the local contacts and forward linkages of this entire gang, aiming to dismantle the organized chain of human trafficking originating from Jharkhand.
