
Srinagar, May 21: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Gandarbal police in Jammu and Kashmir have successfully arrested three individuals involved in the narcotics trade. This action is part of the ongoing ‘Drug-Free Jammu and Kashmir’ campaign. Authorities seized heroin and other illicit substances from the suspects. The police are now proceeding with further investigations into the case.
According to reports, the operation took place within the jurisdiction of the Khirbhawani police station. During routine vehicle checks at Dumkadal Chowk, police stopped a Scorpio vehicle traveling from Gandarbal to Barsu for inspection. The behavior of the occupants raised suspicions, prompting a thorough search of the vehicle and its passengers.
During the search, officers discovered heroin inside the vehicle and on the suspects. Without delay, the police arrested all three individuals at the scene. The seized narcotics have been confiscated following legal procedures.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Jahangir Ahmad Jan, alias ‘Jana’, son of Mohammad Shafi, a resident of Trisa Safapora; Junaid Zahoor Bhatt, son of Zahoor Ahmad, from Waripora Safapora; and Jahangir Ahmad Bhatt, son of Ghulam Mohammad, from Batpora Safapora. Jahangir Ahmad Jan was driving the Scorpio.
The police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act at the Khirbhawani police station. Officials state that the investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of the suspects’ network and the source of the narcotics supply.
Gandarbal police have reiterated their commitment to continue the fight against drug abuse. They urge the public, especially the youth, to report any information regarding drug trafficking or substance abuse in their vicinity to the authorities. The police emphasize that community cooperation is essential in creating a drug-free society.
