Bhopal, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant development, the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department has taken decisive action against illegal leopard poaching and trafficking. So far, ten suspects have been arrested from three different states, and charges have been filed in the Shivpuri court.
This operation is part of a special campaign targeting inter-state poaching and trafficking rings. The State Tiger Strike Force (STSF) has been conducting effective operations. On July 30, a joint team from the STSF’s Bhopal unit, along with the Kuno Wildlife Division and the Shivpuri Forest Division, seized 42 leopard bones based on information from an informant, leading to the registration of a wildlife crime case.
Evidence suggests that an organized gang is involved in this case. The arrested individuals hail from Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi. Authorities have also confiscated a large quantity of leopard body parts, along with six deadly traps and a knife used for hunting.
The case has been officially filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Shivpuri. Additionally, Karthik Satyanarayan, CEO and co-founder of Wildlife SOS, has been present in Shivpuri to assist with the investigation in accordance with directions from the Supreme Court in New Delhi.
This case is particularly significant for the Madhya Pradesh government, as the gang is accused of hunting ten leopards in the sensitive regions of Shivpuri and Morena, which fall under the critical “Cheetah Landscape” area.
