Nashik, February 26: The Nashik police have taken action following an incident where prayers were conducted at the Malegaon Municipal Corporation’s electricity department office. An FIR has been registered against seven individuals in connection with this event.

Mahendra Raghunath Sawant, a wireman at the electricity department, lodged a complaint stating that several people entered the office to pray and misbehaved with the staff. At the time, many employees were present and focused on their duties. During this period, Lukman and Salim Ekka arrived at the office with four to five companions.

According to the complaint, Lukman confronted the employees, asking, “Where is your boss? Are you the storekeeper? Provide the account for the streetlights and show your register.” In response, Mahendra explained that the lights received had been taken by the electrical inspector for installation as needed in the ward. He added that only the electrical inspector could determine where the lights would be placed. Lukman and his supporters then left the office.

Later, around 5 PM, Lukman returned with his companions and insisted on praying inside the office. Allegedly, he declared, “We will pray here in the electricity department office and will take the streetlights with us.” While making this statement, he threw chairs from the electrical supervisor’s cabin.

Mahendra Raghunath Sawant accused them of attempting to reason with the group, but one individual threw a chair that struck his leg. They then placed a white cloth on the floor and began to pray. Other employees also tried to intervene, but their attempts were ignored. One person began recording the incident on a mobile phone while issuing threats, leading to a disruption of government work.

Following Mahendra Raghunath Sawant’s complaint, the Nashik (Rural) police have filed charges against seven individuals under various sections of the law.
