Bhopal, April 23: Good news has emerged for wheat-producing farmers in Madhya Pradesh. The central government has approved an additional procurement of 2.2 million metric tons of wheat for the state.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and other government officials. The state government is now set to procure nearly 10 million metric tons of wheat in 2026.
It is noteworthy that the Indian government had initially set a target of 7.8 million metric tons for wheat procurement at the support price for the Rabi marketing year 2026-27. CM Yadav has been in continuous contact with the central government regarding the increase in the wheat procurement target.
Mohan Yadav stated that the state government received permission for the additional 2.2 million metric tons of wheat procurement after requests were made to Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Shah, Union Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal, and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The wheat procurement process is ongoing, and this year, the state has seen a bumper crop. Compared to last year, the central government increased the wheat procurement quota for the state by 300,000 metric tons. However, wheat production has nearly doubled this year. There are several challenges regarding global exports, and there is also a crisis concerning the availability of jute bags for procurement.
He emphasized that despite last year’s wheat storage, the state government stands firmly with farmers at every step. The government is farmer-friendly and is always ready to assist them in any situation. In the past, farmers were provided with price support for soybean through the Bhavantar scheme. Currently, there is no need for anyone to panic. All farmers’ wheat will be procured gradually, and if necessary, the procurement dates can be extended.
