Madhya Pradesh Government Accused of Inaction on OBC Reservation by Jitu Patwari

Bhopal, April 27: Jitu Patwari, the president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee, has accused the state’s Mohan Yadav government of being inactive regarding the provision of 27 percent reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBC). He raised concerns about the state government’s seriousness in the ongoing OBC reservation hearings at the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Patwari emphasized that the issue of OBC reservation is crucial for millions of youths, candidates, students, and families. Despite this, he described the BJP government’s inaction as extremely unfortunate. He recalled that in 2019, under the leadership of Kamal Nath, the Congress government had increased OBC reservation from 14 percent to 27 percent. This decision was a historic step towards social justice and recognizing the rights of the backward classes. However, since then, the matter has been entangled in various legal petitions, and the BJP government has failed to address it seriously.

He pointed out that the Supreme Court of India had transferred the state government’s petitions to the Madhya Pradesh High Court with clear instructions to resolve the matter within three months. Half of the designated time has already passed, yet the government’s activity remains absent.

Patwari further noted that the date and time for the High Court hearings were predetermined, yet the expected seriousness from the government was lacking. The absence of state legal officials, particularly the Advocate General, raises questions about the government’s intentions regarding such an important issue.

He stated that hundreds of thousands of candidates have been waiting for their appointments for years. The inability to effectively implement OBC reservation for seven years is a testament to the state government’s administrative failure. If the government were genuinely committed to the rights of the backward classes, it would present its case in court with full preparation and strength.

Patwari concluded by asserting that the government’s lax attitude at such a critical time is an injustice to the future of millions of youths.
