Raipur, May 17: In a tragic incident in Chhattisgarh, lightning has resulted in the deaths of 21 cattle. Officials reported that two separate occurrences of lightning during adverse weather conditions led to this unfortunate loss on Sunday.
The sudden change in weather, characterized by storms and heavy rainfall, has created a significant economic crisis for local farmers and livestock owners.
On Saturday night, in Pondum village of the Bhairamgarh development block in Bijapur district, cattle were grazing in open fields when the weather abruptly turned severe. Ten cattle were struck by lightning and died on the spot, leaving local livestock owners in shock.
Similarly, in the remote and hilly area of Rajmergarh village in the Gorela-Pendra-Marwahi district, another incident occurred. Officials noted that the weather shifted dramatically on Saturday evening, leading to heavy rain. Lightning then struck a herd of cattle, resulting in the immediate death of eleven animals.
The sudden weather change on Saturday caused heavy rain and strong winds across several districts in Chhattisgarh, including Raipur. The storms uprooted trees, damaged vehicles, and disrupted traffic, necessitating cleanup operations by Sunday morning.
The meteorological department has forecasted continuous rain and overcast skies until Monday. Following this period, most areas, except for the Bastar division, are expected to see clearer skies.
