Mumbai, February 2: The involvement of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in targeting Bollywood celebrities has taken a new turn with the firing incident at director-producer Rohit Shetty’s residence. The Mumbai Crime Branch is investigating the case and has found crucial evidence pointing to Shubham Lonkar, a wanted gangster linked to the gang, as the mastermind behind the attack.
The incident occurred around midnight on the first floor of a nine-storey building in Juhu, where unidentified assailants opened fire. Fortunately, no one was injured, though a bullet hit the gym’s glass window inside the building. After initial inquiries by the Mumbai Police, the case was handed over to the Crime Branch due to its seriousness.
The Crime Branch confirmed that Shubham Lonkar, who has also been named in the preliminary investigation of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui’s murder, is currently absconding. Lonkar has claimed responsibility for the firing and provided assistance to the attackers. Twelve teams have been formed to track down the accused, with CCTV footage from the area clearly capturing the suspects.
Following the attack, security outside Rohit Shetty’s home has been increased. The director has advised his close associates to avoid visiting his residence during the ongoing investigation. According to a close friend, Rohit Shetty is cooperating fully with the police and has recorded his statement.
